Chicken Barn Memorial Walkway
October 2015
-
Before.
This is what the ground looked like before we started preparing it for the memorial pavers.
-
Excavating.
We used the tractor to dig down about six inches before adding the sand base.
-
Compacting the soil.
Our friend, Susan using our handmade tamper. Sometimes you have to improvise! : )
-
Time for the scribe.
We had no idea how many steps were involved in making a paver stone pathway! Here’s the scribe that we made to make sure everything was level.
-
Sand layer.
A few hundred pounds of sand made up the next layer.
-
The first row.
After smoothing out the sand layer, we arranged the first row for the walkway.
-
Deacon was a big help.
Deacon was thrilled to get a ride on the big green trailer that we used to bring the paver stones to the site.
-
Susan was a pro.
Susan tapped the stones into place, one by one.
-
Progress.
By the following day, Susan was over halfway through!
-
Almost done!
We had a few empty spots and eventually filled in the small squares on the ends with beautiful animal graphics and heart stones.
-
After.
The memorial walkway came out so beautifully. Susan did a wonderful job and we love seeing all the names of so many beloved pets every day. Since we ran out of room, we started a new memorial walkway in our cemetery which has an infinite amount of space for adding new stones.
