Mazie
Mazie was surrendered to us by a local family who had a flock of chickens who suddenly turned on her one day. She arrived with a severe head wound that the owner had treated with a purple colored antiseptic spray. She was very weak and exhausted when she arrived and spent over a month in our sanctuary hospital for wound care, pain meds, fluids and a lot of pampering. She is the sweetest girl, always underfoot and quickly made some good friends in our special needs coop. Mazie really loves lettuce!

When I picked her up, the box she was in was all taped up, so I had no idea what she looked like!

First day, her wounds were so severe we doubted she would be able to regrow the feathers on her head.

Slowly but surely new feathers began to grow.

After about a month she was starting to have more new feathers than purple ones.

She is closely bonded to Ruth and Amy, seen here foraging in the weeds.

She has the best hairdo!
